Blockchain is becoming firmly established as a tool to facilitate trade. In Brazil, this technology is proving strategic in strengthening the traceability and competitiveness of the organic honey production chain. Ana Basco, Verónica Massera, and Lautaro M. Ramírez, members of the consulting firm Insight LAC, presented ECLAC’s final report for MAPA on Blockchain in Brazil’s Organic Honey Value Chain. In addition to sharing some preliminary findings, they opened a dialogue aimed at advancing the adoption of this tool.
Learning about the study’s preliminary results made it possible to:
- Address the regional strategic context of blockchain use for trade facilitation.
- Analyze the legal and regulatory aspects of its adoption in Brazil.
- Evaluate technical aspects such as traceability and interoperability.
- Open a space for dialogue through questions and comments from participants interested in using blockchain in Brazil’s honey value chain.
For Insight LAC, it was highly rewarding to contribute to this technical and public policy forum, particularly in an international context characterized by increasingly demanding value chains.
We would especially like to thank ECLAC for its leadership and coordination of the project, and Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA) for its commitment and openness to interinstitutional dialogue.
Initiatives such as this demonstrate how international cooperation can be translated into concrete roadmaps for the responsible and strategic adoption of new technologies.
We also thank the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply, and everyone who made this event possible: Johan (Nanno) Mulder, Wagner Fragoso, Camilo Mussi, Lautaro M. Ramírez, Verónica Massera, and Carlos Eduardo Silva Tabosa.
