World Futures Day

Since 2022, UNESCO has celebrated the World Futures Day every December 2, with the aim of “promoting the collective capacity to think, plan, and debate future scenarios through a creative and inclusive approach, where technologies such as artificial intelligence and climate change are two fundamental issues” to be discussed, especially in a context where geopolitics introduces new challenges.

❗ At Insight LAC, we promote discussion and the possibility of viewing change through constructive perspectives. Addressing the transformations driven by geopolitics, highlighting actions that can be taken in favor of climate change mitigation, and encouraging investment in infrastructure—such as artificial intelligence infrastructure—to generate positive impacts on economies and societies are among our core areas of work.

Ana Basco, Jimena Calvo, and Paula Garnero, Directors of Insight LAC, propose new ways of approaching geopolitics, climate change, and artificial intelligence, respectively, from fresh perspectives that take into account a global landscape characterized by increasingly rapid shifts in dynamics.

“The new uncertainties generated by the current geopolitical landscape compel us to think about new strategies for Latin American integration. Nothing is set in stone; therefore, exploring new trade partnerships and diversifying markets may represent a valuable opportunity to improve international integration,” said Ana Basco.

“Latin America possesses two extraordinary characteristics: it is a region of peace and it is home to a significant share of the planet’s biodiversity. These are two key factors for attracting investment aimed at transforming the energy matrix and for viewing sustainable finance as a concrete opportunity for change,” stated Jimena Calvo.

“As policies are developed to attract investment in digital infrastructure, it also becomes possible to envision new service production models that enable countries in the region to achieve inclusive, intelligent, and sovereign integration, where artificial intelligence becomes a tool for social justice,” argued Paula Garnero.

🤝 World Futures Day encourages us to think more deeply about the actions that must be designed and implemented today. To achieve this, it is essential to deepen the discussion around these issues in order to define policies that can deliver tangible improvements in living conditions and quality of life for people in Argentina and across the region. In this regard, we are working with international organizations such as the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), and public institutions such as the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANNI) and Argentina’s National Secretariat of Culture, among others.
